Tips for shoots with dogs

To make sure we capture the best moments of your pup, here are a few simple tips before your session:
1. Give them some exercise beforehand
A short walk or play session helps release extra energy so they’re more relaxed and focused.
2. Bring their favourites
Pack high-value treats and a favourite toy this helps grab their attention and reward good behaviour during the shoot.
3. Keep grooming simple & natural
A clean coat, brushed fur, and wiped eyes/nose go a long way. No need for anything over the top just your dog looking their best.
4. Choose the right accessories
If your dog will be wearing a collar, harness, or bandana, keep it clean and neutral (unless you’re going for a specific look).
5. Skip feeding right before the shoot
A slightly hungry pup is more motivated by treats (but don’t skip meals entirely just time it right!).
6. Practice basic commands
“Sitting,” “staying,” and “look” can make a big difference even if they only hold it for a few seconds.
7. Arrive a few minutes early
This gives your dog time to get comfortable in the new environment before we start shooting.
8. Stay calm & positive
Dogs pick up on your energy. The more relaxed you are, the better they’ll do!
9. Trust the process
Not every moment will be perfectly posed and that’s okay. Some of the best photos come from candid, in-between moments.
